As has been widely reported across the web, Canon filed a patent for a new kind of auto-focusing system for LiveView. LiveView has enabled Video Capture on DSLR's (so far only on the Nikon D90 and Canon 5D Mark II), and this new auto-focusing system should therefore work with Video capture on future Canon DSLR models.
AF is one area that's definitely lacking in current DSLR Video capture (the Nikon D90 doesn't even offer AF for video), so I'm sure Canon is hoping this will give them a competitive advantage over their rivals.
