According to NR, the 200-400mm f4 lens will be replaced in a few weeks with new VR and minor tweaks. NR rates this as 90% and calls it a "done deal".
Given this is the oldest of the current pro zoom set (14-24mm, 24-70mm, 70-200mm and 200-400mm), combined with the fact the pro telephoto set are all newer (300mm f2.8, 400mm f2.8, 500mm f4 and 600mm f4) then it's a fair bet this will be the next big/pro lens to get updated. Whether it will be just a new version of VR and minor tweaks, or a complete redesign remains to be seen.
